
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism released the survey results that about 22.6 million Japanese peoples, 22% of the total population, are involved in particular regions continuously and in certain ways.
Out of the total, visitors to particular regions were about 18.8 million, while non-visitors were about 3.8 million. By type of visit, the most visitors were found for “hobby or consumption,’ followed by ‘participation or interaction’ and ‘direct contribution.’
Visitors from regions except three major urban areas to other regions were about 7.6 million (33%), followed by 2.9 million visitors from Tokyo urban areas to other regions and 2.2 million from Tokyo urban areas to Tokyo urban areas.
Regarding visiting days a year, the most answers were found in ‘’two to seven days’ with 49%, followed by ‘eight days or longer’ wth 31% and ‘one day or shorter’ with 20%. Almost half of visitors staying for eight days or longer were workers in a local city or teleworkers.
Regarding issues to continue being involved in particular regions, the most answers were found in ‘to secure private times (27.4%),’ followed by ‘reducing financial burdens (26.7%)’ and ‘more convenient transportation (26.4%).’
