Domestic travel consumption by Japanese travelers was up 12% to 7.5 trillion yen in Q2 of 2026

Japan Tourism Agency announced that the total amount of domestic travel consumption by Japanese travelers for the 2nd quarter of 2026 (April to June) was up 11.7% year on year to 7.5 trillion yen, which were divided into 6 trillion yen for overnight trips (up 13.6%) and  1.6 trillion yen for day trips (up 5.1%).

The total number of Japanese domestic travelers increased by 3.3% to 150 million, and the high growth was seen in May with 5.4% up. The quarterly total was divided into 77.4 million overnight travelers (up 6.4%) and 72 day travelers (up 0.1%).

The average spending a trip was up 8.2% to 50,381 yen a traveler. It was 76,947 yen for overnight travel (up 6.8%) and 21,875 yen for day travel (up 5.0%).
