Japan Tourism Agency announced that the total amount of domestic travel consumption by Japanese travelers for the first three months of 2026 was up 4.8% year on year to 5.9 trillion yen, which were divided into 4.8 trillion yen for overnight trips (up 5.4% and  1.1 trillion yen for day trips (up 2.5%).

The total number of Japanese domestic travelers increased by 0.4% to 120 million, which were divided into 67.5 million overnight travelers (up 1.4%) and 52.9 day travelers (down 0.9%).

The average spending a trip was up 4.4% to 49,133 yen a traveler. It was 71,414 yen for overnight travel (up 3.9%) and 20,672 yen for day travel (up 3.5%).
