Google Map announces top five tourist spots in 47 prefectures of Japan based on user reviews

Celebrating its 20th anniversary since the launch of its service, Google Maps has announced the top five most popular spots by prefecture on Google Maps. Based on the number of reviews posted by users on Google Maps and taking into account user review ratings, the list was compiled to highlight the most popular spots in each prefecture. Popular spots include complex facilities such as markets and amusement parks.

The most popular spots for tourists were ‘Tokyo Skytree’ in Tokyo, ‘Universal Studio Japan’ in Osaka and ‘Fushimi Inari Shrine’ in Kyoto.

Zoos and aquariums attracted travelers’ attentions nationwide, as tops were ‘Asahiyama Zoo’ in Hokkaido, ‘Tsuruoka City Kamo Aquarium’ in Yamagata, ‘Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium’ in Miyagi and ‘Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium’ in Okinawa. 

In the prefectures facing the seas, fish markets were ranked tops, such as ‘Nakaminato Fish Market’ in Ibaraki, ‘Teradomari Market Street’ in Niigata, ‘ToreTore Park’ in Wakayama, ‘Karato Market’ in Yamaguchi and ‘Hirome Market’ in Kochi. 

Top natural landscapes were found in ‘Kurobe Dam’ in Toyama, ‘Tojinbo’ in Fukui, ‘Kinrinko Lake’ in Oita, ‘Takachiho Valley’ in Miyazaki, ‘Tatsuko Statue’ in Akita and ‘Oshino Hakkai’ in Yamanashi.
