International arrivals in Japan were up 6% to 3.47 million in February 2026, despite a 45% reduction in Chinese visitors

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international arrivals in Japan in February 2026 was up 6.4% year on year to 3,466,700. While arrivals from China considerably reduced by 45.2% to 396,400, an increase in arrivals from Asia boosted the whole market due to Chinese New Year holidays in early February. 

The largest source market was South Korea with 1,086,400 arrivals (up 28.2%), followed by Taiwan with 694,500 (up 36.7%), China, Hong Kong with 233,900 (up 19.6%)and U.S.with 219,700 (up 14.7%).

Arrivals from 18 source markets were record-high for February, and double-digit growths were seen in Singapore, Philippines, Canada, Mexico, U.K. and France.
