Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) reported that the number of international conventions in Japan in 2025 was up 15% year on year to 428, which were 6th most globally, based on the statistics released by International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
In Asia, Japan was the top for four years in a row, hosting more conventions than 326 in China or 286 in South Korea.
International conventions increased not only in major cities, such as Tokyo, Osaka or Yokohama, but also in local cities, such as Matsue, Nara, Kagoshima, Kumamoto or Takamatsu. 19 cities hosted more than five international conventions, and 70 cities more than one.
The Japanese government aims to maintain within top 5 in the world and top in Asia as a MICE destination.
According to ICCA, the number of international conventions in the world was up 12% to 12,438 in 2025. The top market was U.S., followed by Italy, Germany, Spain and U.K.
