International MICE generated an economic spillover effect of 1 trillion JPY or more in Japan in FY2017

Japan Tourism Agency reported that an economic spillover effect of international MICE held in Japan reached 1,059 billion JPY in FY2017, which consisted of 678.9 billion JPY for international conferences, 161.4 billion HPY for meetings, 56.9 billion JPY for incentive travels and 161.8 billion JPY for exhibitions. An economic spillover effect of international conferences was up 15% compared to FY2016. 

Consumption totaled 538.4 billion JPY, including 105.9 billion JPY by international attendances and 108.5 billion JPY by Japanese attendances.  Expenses by hosts reached 239.5 billion JPY, and expenses by exhibitors were 84.5 billion JPY. 

The average spending an international attendance amounted to 337,000 JPY: 373,000 JPY for international conferences, 325,000 JPY for meetings, 320,000 JPY for incentive travels and 275,000 JPY for exhibitions. 

96,000 jobs were created by international MICE and economic activities related to international MICE. Tax effects were estimated at about 82 billion JPY.
