International visitors to Kyushu broke the previous record in March 2017, boosted by an increase in cruises

International visitors to Kyushu increased by 25% year on year to 360,288 in March 2017, which were record-high for March. Out of the monthly total, visitors with cruises reached 105,009, which accounted for about 30% of the total and represented over 50,000 for 22 months in a row.

The total for the first three months of 2017 was up 31.2% to 1,110,166, which represented the shortest achievement of 1 million visitors ever. Visitors with cruises were 317,486.

The biggest international market in March 2017 was Korea with 165,000 visitors (+46.6%), followed by Taiwan with 30,000 (-7.5%), China with 20,000 (+4.7%) and Hong Kong with 18,000 (-3.3%). The results did not include visitors with cruises.

The preliminary report says that international visitors in April 2017 were up 64.8% year on year to 279,723, which may be the most visitors on a single month basis.
