Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international arrivals in Japan in October 2022 was 498,600, which were up 2.5 times from 206,500 in September 2022, boosted by practical open of the border with lifting the entry cap limitation and restart of visa waiver on October 11.

Compared to October 2019 (2,496,568 arrivals), the result remained a 80% decrease.

The largest source market in October 2022 was south Korea with 122,900 visitors, followed by U.S. with 53,200 visitors, Hong Kong with 36,200 visitors, Taiwan with 35,000 visitors and Thailand with 34,100 visitors. JNTO said that recovery was seen not only in East Asia but also in Southeast Asia, Europe, U.S. and Australia partially because of weak yen benefit for international visitors. 

According to OAG, international flights arriving in six major airports in Japan (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo) were up 127.6% year on year to 6,485 and available seats were up 122.1% to 1,536,324 in total.
