Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) reported that the number of Japanese international travelers in September 2026 was up 6.3% year on year to 1,481,900, which showed the year-on-year growth for the first time in the past three months.

Compared to September  2019 (1.75 million travelers), the number was still down 15.4%.

The total of Japanese international travelers for the first nine months of 2026 was up 3.2% year on year to 11,206,400.
