JR East, a Japanese railway company, launches a new online booking system for Shinkansen completing a booking in as little as one minute

JR East, announced that the Japanese railway company will launch a new online booking system for Shinkansen ‘JRE GO’ in the autumn 2026. Simplifying  booking steps from 21 currently to four, the new system will allow a user to complete a booking as little as in one minute.

The system will be available on the Tohoku, Akita, Yamagata, Jyoetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen routes. Before the full-scale service launch, the demonstration service will begin on April 20 2026.

Usability and visuality are upgraded, and a user can change a booking and be refunded more easily and smoothly by accessing the latest booking directly from the top screen.

JR East plans to deal with express tickets on local routes and to incorporate a multi-languages system on JRE GO by the end of March in 2028. The current booking system ‘Ekinet’ will be maintained as the JR East’s platform service, and both of the services will  be integrated in the future.
