Ninety percent say ‘No plan yet’ for this coming 10 consecutive Golden Week holidays in Japan

The consumer awareness survey, conducted by Royalty Marketing managing loyalty point service ‘Ponta,’ finds that only one-fourth of the total has decided to take 10 holidays in this coming Golden Week (GW) period beginning late April as of the end of January 2019. In accordance with accession of the New Emperor on May 1 2019, up to 10 consecutive holidays can be possible in this year’s GW period. 

The survey targeted 20 to 50’s 3,000 Ponta research members in the period between January 25 and 31 2019. 

The ratio of answers to take 10 consecutive holidays was just 25.6%. Adding 4.8% for more than 11 days for holidays, about 30% plans to spend the whole Golden Week period as holidays. The ratio of answers to take 1 to 3 days, 4 to 6 days and 7 to 9 days was 25.4% in total.

Answers of already having plans in the GW period accounted for 10% only, and the ratio of ‘No plan yet’ reached 90%. Among answers of already having plans, the most-answered plan was domestic travel (46.8%), followed by overseas travel (27.6%) and dining out (15.3%). Among answers of no plan yet, the most-answered plan was staying home (46.6%), followed by domestic travel (25.9%) and dining out (18.7%). 

The most-selected travel days were three days for domestic travel (31.9%), followed by two days (20.6%) and five days (15.6%), and five days for overseas travel (24.1%), followed by seven days (16.9%) and eight days (13.3%).
