The best time to see the autumn leaves in Japan is expected to be latter than usual, around November 24 in Arashiyama, Kyoto

Weathernews reported on September 3 2026 that the best time to see the autumn leaves in Japan is expected to be latter than usual due to higher temperatures than usual nationwide.

Region-wise, the autumn leave season are forecasted to run from middle of September to early November in Hokkaido, from early October to late November in Tohoku, from middle of October to middle of December in Kanto and from early November to middle of December in Kyushu. 

The best times to see the autumn leaves in major tourist destinations are expected to be around September 14 in Daisetsuzan Asahidake, Hokkaido, around October 17 in Zao, Yamagata, around October 21 in Kamikouchi, Nagano, around October 31 in Irohazaka, Tochigi, around November 19 in Miyazaima, Hiroshima, around November 22 in Takaosan, Tokyo, around November 24 in Arashiyama, Kyoto and around November 29 in Akizuki, Fukuoka.
