The Destination Restaurant of the Year 2026 in Japan is awarded to a shark fin specialty restaurant in Kesennuma, Miyagi

Japan Times, a Japanese English-language newspaper, announced  10 awarded restaurants in the 6th Japan Times Destination Restaurants. Destination restaurants are those that are worth traveling to in order to experience them. The Japan Times has been publishing the "Destination Restaurants List" since 2021, based on the concept of ‘Japanese restaurants chosen by Japanese people that they want to share with the world.’

The Destination Restaurant of the Year 2026 was awarded to ‘Kesennuma KUROMORI,’ a shark fin specialty restaurant, in Kesennuma, Miyagi, which was highly valued for utilizing every part of the shark, not just the fins, and promoting it as a unique aspect of Japanese food culture.

The 10 awarded restaurants are as follows:

Kesennuma KUROMORI in Kesennuma, Miyagi

Ukitomam in Nanyo, Yamagata

Ohtsu in Mito, Ibaraki

TSUKIHI in Echizen, Fukui

mano in Karuizawa, Nagano

RUKAWA in Takashima, Shiga

SÉN in Tenkawa, Nara
