Visitors from U.S., U.K. and Australia to Japan unprecedentedly reclined by 80% or more in March 2020

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) reported that the number of visitors was unprecedentedly down 87% year on year to 23,000 from U.S., 82.4% to 6,800 from U.K. and 80.1% to 8,800 from Australia in March 2020 obviously because of the the COVID-19-related travel restrictions.

The U.S. government has recommended overseas travel cancelation to American citizens since March 19. The U.K. government has prohibited overseas travels since March 16. The Australian government raised the travel warning for Japan from High Warning to travel prohibition in March.

In parallel, the Japanese government has strengthened quarantine or stopped visa waiver for travelers from any foreign countries and regions.
