International visitors to Japan were down 99% to 3,800 in July 2020, marking YOY reductions for 10 months in a row

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international visitors to Japan was down 99.9% year on year to 3,800 in July 2020, drastically falling from 2.99 million a year ago. The YOY reduction was seen for ten months in a row, and the almost zero results have been seen since April.

The Japanese government continued travel restrictions for international visitors, including quarantine and entry refusal, in July as well to prevent the COVID-19 virus from flowing into Japan.

According to OAG, an aviation date provider, international flight arrivals in six major airports (Haneda, Narita, Kansai, Nagoya, Sapporo and Fukuoka) in Japan were down 87.7% to 2,757 in July, and available seats were also down 88.0% to 620,229.

In the meantime, the Japanese government has received applications for ‘Residence Track’ which still needs 14 days-quarantine, for Thailand and Vietnam since July 29 and will hopefully begin ‘Business Track’ for Singapore and Malaysia in September this year.
