Expedia survey on in-flight manners shows that one-third of Japanese do not recline a seat during a flight

The Expedia Japan survey on in-flight manners in eight Asian countries and regions finds that one-third of Japanese (29%) do not recline a seat during a flight, which ranks top along with Korea among the target countries and regions. Almost half of them (51%) reclines a seat only when they sleep.

Troublesome manners for Japanese are drunks (77%), kicking a front seat (69%) and strong perfume or body smell.

The ratio of Japanese who have two or more glasses of alcoholic beverages onboard or in an airport is 25%, the second highest following India. The ratio of Japanese who have flirted with a traveling companion onboard is 14%, the second highest following Thailand.

Regarding Japanese reactions against troublesome behaviors onboard, the ratios of reporting cabin attendants (62%) and of tolerating without saying anything (43%) are the highest among the target countries and regions, and the ratio of warning directly is just 11%.

The survey was conducted online in February 2017, targeting Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and India. Samples were 8,447.
