Japanese guests considerably improved in October 2021 after declaration of a state of emergency was lifted

Japan Tourism Agency reported that the total number of guest nights in October 2021 was down 5.5% year on year to 32.6 million, considerably improving from 18.2% reduction in September 2021 because declaration of a state of emergency was lifted on September 30.

The occupation rate was 42.1%, 0.1 higher points than a year ago or 10 higher points than 31.2% in September 2021. All of the accommodation types saw higher occupancy rates than September 2021:  30.2%for ryokan (9.3 lower points than two years ago), 37.0% for resort hotel (20.8 lower points than two years ago), 52.5% for budget hotel (24.8 lower points than two years ago) and 42.4% for city hotel (38.2 lower points than two years ago). The occupancy rate for budget hotel was 2.6 higher points than even a year ago.

By prefecture, growths in comparison with a year ago were seen Tokyo with 10.6% up, Osaka with 4.7% up and Yamagata with 30.2% up. The highest occupancy rate was discovered in Akita with 45.9%, while the lowest in Okianwa with 22.0%.
