Rakuten Travel, a Japanese leading OTA, visualizes sustainable efforts by hotels and ryokan

Rakuten Travel, a Japanese leading OTA, has released ‘Sustainable Icon’ to introduce sustainable efforts by hotels and ryokans on its booking platform, as part of ‘Go Green Together’ projects of Rakuten Group. In addition, the OTA will give ‘Sustainable Travel Badge’ to a hotel or a ryokan with designated criteria.

A user is able to choose a hotel or ryokan based on the sustainable efforts for eight icons of ‘waste’, ‘water resource,’ ‘energy,’ ‘nature environment,’ ‘food,’ ‘tradition/history,’ ‘diversity’ and ‘local contribution.’

‘Sustainable Travel Badge’ has two star stages according to criteria, and a user can narrow the search to hotels and ryokans with the badges.

Rakuten Travel provides partner loadings with ‘handbook’ to encourage them to accelerate sustainable efforts.
