Six private accommodation platforms in Japan are preparing to establish an industrial organization

Before the private accommodation business law is enforced on June 15 2018, six platforms in Japan met to establish an industrial association, which has duties to check safe business operation for users and quality improvement. The meeting at Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism was joined by heads for Japan of foreign-based Airbnb, Homeaway, Tujia, Zizaike and Japan-based Hakusenrenma and Rakuten Lifull Stay.

Naoya Haraikawa, Vice Commissioner of Japan Tourism Agency, said at the meeting, “Platforms play the most important role to make access points between users and private accommodations. It is a voluntary organization, and you have your respective business directions. However, for users, you are the same business. I hope that many people say ‘private accommodation is good.’”
