Taiwan Tourism Administration hosted a tourism seminar and business meetings to share the updated market trends and tourism topics with Japanese travel companies, joined by 33 companies and organizations from Taiwan.
Japanese travelers to Taiwan in 2025 were up 12.4% year on year to 1.48 million with a 17.3% share in the international market, and the growth rate was higher than 9.1% of all international travelers (8.57 million).
Taiwanese travelers to Japan were record-high 6.73 million, which were 4.5 times more travelers than Japanese travelers to Taiwan. There was still a big gap between them.
Looking more closely at the Japanese market in Taiwan, the repeat visitor rate is 49%, almost half. Broken down by gender, it's roughly equal at 51% for men and 49% for women. Furthermore, looking at it by age group, those in their 50s and 60s each account for the largest share at 21%, indicating that seniors continue to drive the market, while those in their 20s also make up a significant proportion at 19%.
Taiwan Tourism Administration has been developing a promotional campaign targeting 20 to 39 years old females and students to appeal gastronomy, night markets, culture and history and nature.
The Taiwanese delegation joined the tourism event for general consumers in Akihabara, Tokyo on April 11 and 12 to appeal tourism in Taiwan. For two days, about 5,500 visitors enjoyed the event.
Shao Hsun Wang, Director, Tokyo Office, Taiwan Tourism Administration, said, “Through the campaign, we want to let Japanese people know the charms of the unknown central, southern, eastern and islands of Taiwan, as well as the warm hospitality of Taiwanese people.”

Kuniharu Ebina, Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) President said of the visitor gap between Japan and Taiwan, “It is important to increase Japanese travelers to Taiwan to vitalize the two-way travel market.” JATA intends to appeal ’30 world heritage-class places in Taiwan’ jointly selected by JATA and Taiwan Tourism Administration.
