U.S. had the top share of international visitor’s nights in Kyoto City in March 2026

DMO Kyoto announced that the average occupancy rate of 113 hotels in Kyoto City was 81.6% in March 2026, 2.5 higher points than a year ago, and ADR was 26,017 yen, 4.7% more than a year ago. The average occupancy rate of 22 ryokan was 57.2%, 7.5 higher points than a year ago. 

Japanese travelers’ nights were up 11.1% year on year to 339,466, and international travelers’ nights down 0.4% to 559,898. U.S. had been the top market share of international travelers’ nights since October 2025 with 27.4% in March 2026. Stay nights of travelers from Europe increased by 16.0% year on year.

On the contrary, stay nights of travelers from China were down 64.9%, and also those from Middle East 36.1%.

DMO Kyoto has forecasted the occupancy rate will be 81.1% in April 2026. The forecast is 8.4 lower points than a year ago because travelers from China and Middle East are expected to continue reducing.
