Visa fee for foreigners to Japan rose by five times to 15,000 yen for single validity (from 3,000 yen) and to 30,000 yen for multiple validity (from 6,000 yen) on a yen basis. The fee should be paid with the currency of the county or the region where a traveler applies for visa.

The number of visa issued by Japanese embassies or consulates in foreign countries or regions in 2025 was up 9% year on year to 7,862,060, which were the second most visa issued following 8,277,340 in 2019.  

Top three countries were China, Philippines and Vietnam, which accounted for 84% of the total. Out of the three countries, China accounted for 73% of the total.
