Airbnb.org launches a disaster preparedness program in Japan to provide its listings as shelters within 24 hours after a natural disaster happens

Airbnb.org has launched a disaster preparedness program in Japan to provide its listings as shelters in all of 47 prefectures. This is the first disaster preparedness program for Airbnb in the world. Airbnb established airbnb.org in 2020 as a non-profit organization to provide shelters for disaster victims.

The Airbnb platform connects disaster victims with Airbnb hosts nationwide. Airbnb revealed that it provided more than 250,000 victims all over the world with 1.6 million nights based on donations.

For the program, airbnb.org has formed partnership with Japanese NGOs of Peace Boat Disaster Relief Center, Japan Platform, and Peace Winds Japan to provide shelters in designated areas in 47 prefectures within 24 hours after a large-scale disaster happens. The support framework functions until a local government organizes an evacuation system.

The program is available not only for temporal evacuators but also for medical and emergency supporters.
