Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international arrivals in Japan in July 2025 was up 4.4% year on year to record-high 3,437,000 for July, despite the growth rate was the lowest in this year.
JNTO said that visitors from East Asia, U.S., Europe, Australia and Middle East increased due to the school holiday season. Visitors from 15 source markets reached record-high for July, including record-breaking visitors from Taiwan in the history.
On the contrary, visitors from six source markets in East and Southeast Asia reduced year ion year.
The largest origin market was China with 974,500 visitors (up 25.5% year on year), followed by South Korea with 678,600 (down 10.4%), Taiwan with 604,200 visitors (up 5.7%), U.S. with 277,100 visitors (up 10.3%) and Hong Kong with 176,000 visitors (down 36.9%).
The decrease in visitors from South Korea and Hong Kong seemed to influenced from a local baseless rumor that a large-scale natural disaster may happen in Japan this summer. Visitors from Singapore were down 13.6% because the news report about extremely hot summer in Japan seemed to influence the demand.
The following graphs show international arrivals by month and by source market.
