Japanese travelers to Australia up 7.9% to 469,200 in 2018, seeing growths for five years in a row

Tourism Australia (TA) announced that the number of Japanese travelers to Australia was up 7.9% year on year to 469,200 in 2018, representing the first over 450,000 in the past decade and year-on-year growths for five years in a row.

Yoshiyuki Nakazawa, TA County Manager Japan, said that joint promotions with airlines and travel agents contributed to the growth. TA has an ultimate goal of 700,000 Japanese travelers, expecting further extension of air network between Japan and Australia including ANA’s new Narita-Perth services in September 2019.
