The biggest reason for choosing vacation rental in Japan is cheaper price, according to HomeAway survey

The awareness survey by HomeAway, a vacation rental marketplace under Expedia Group, finds that the ratio of vacation rental experiences in Japan was around 15%. The ratio of respondents who are willing to rent a whole property without an owner was around 40%, and the ratio to rent a home stay-typed property around 30%.

The survey also shows that supposed renting situations were long-term travel or group travel for a whole property (54%) and short-term travel for a home stay-typed property (66%). For traveling alone, willingness is higher in a home stay-typed property (77%) than in a whole property (53%).

The biggest reason for choosing vacation rental was cheaper price. The second biggest reason for a whole property was cost effectiveness, and for a home stay-typed property communication with local people.

Major reasons for not choosing vacation rental were anxiety about security for a whole property and no privacy or communication with an owner for a home stay-typed property.

Areas preferred for vacation rental were summer retreats in Japan like Karuizawa or Kiyosato (33%) or beaches in Japan like Okinawa (27.8%) for a whole property and nature areas like Yamanashi or Nagano (17.3%) or retreats with few tourists in Japan (17%) for a home stay-typed property.

The survey targeted 20’s to 60’s 400 males and females who experienced overseas travels in the past year.
