Comparison of foreign visitors over the last decade [Australia, U.S. and U.K.]

In comparison of foreign visitors in December 2014, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) report shows that Japan welcomed 37,600 travelers from Australia (+24.0%), 73,500 from U.S. (+7.8%) and 16,900 from U.K. (+15.2%). The monthly result of U.S. was record-high for December.

In calendar 2014, the Australia and U.S. markets broke the previous records. The yearly growth rates were 23.8% in Australia and over 10% in both U.S. and U.K. Visitors from U.S. reached record-high 891,600, breaking the previous record in 2005.

Through 2014, visitors from Australia resulted in double-digit growths every month except March 2014, and JNTO said that the growth mainly resulted from promotional activities focusing on skiing and stopover of large-sized cruise ships. Weak yen was a major factor for growths of visitors from U.S. and U.K., according to JNTO.
