Comparison of travel sales among top five Japanese companies in July 2015

Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) reported that travel sales of 49 major travel companies of Japan totaled 570.8 billion JPY in July 2015 (+0.2% year-on-year), which consisted of 177.4 billion JPY for outbound travel (-11.4%), 15.2 billion JPY for inbound travel (+70.5%) and 378.2 billion JPY for travel in Japan (+4.9%).

All of the top five travel agents (JTB, H.I.S., Hankyu, KNT-CT and NTA) resulted in year-on-year reductions for outbound travel as follows.

All of the top five travel agents (JTB, H.I.S., NTA, KNT-CT and Rakuten) resulted in double-digit year-on-year growths for inbound travel as follows. H.I.S. with a year-on-year growth of 72% ranked 2nd, surpassing NTA.

Sales of travel in Japan of the top five travel agents (JTB, Rakuten, KNT-CT, NTA and ANA Sales) are as follows. Rakuten upgraded to 2nd with a year-on-year growth of 16.4%.

Sales of package tour brand products totaled 152.9 billion JPY in June 2015 (-4.1%) with 3,357,749 customers in total (-3.0%), which comprised 578 million JPY (+51.1%) with 33,972 customers (+47.6%) for inbound travel, 56.6 billion JPY (-14.5%) with 239,052 customers (-19.3%) for outbound travel and 95.7 billion JPY (+3.0%) with 3,084,725 customers (-1.9%) for travel in Japan.

According to the hearing survey to travel agents, a continuous increase in travelers from Southeast Asia and East Asia was found in the inbound travel market, and downturn of demand for Europe negatively influenced the outbound travel market in July 2015 following the previous months.
