High-end private compartment class on Tokaido Shinkansen was unveiled before offered on October 1 2026

JR Tokai, operating Tokaido Shinkansen, unveiled ‘Supreme Class,’ an upper class beyond the current ‘Green Class,’ which will be available on Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen between Tokyo and Hakata.

Supreme Class consists of private compartment class ‘Cabin’ and semi-private compartment class ‘Seat.’ ‘Cabin’ services will begin on ‘Nozomi 1’ departing 6:00 a.m. from Tokyo on October 1 2026, and ‘Seat’ service by the end of March 2028.

"Supreme Class Cabin" units are installed in Car 7 and Car 10 of the trainset, with one cabin in each car. The cabin in Car 7 accommodates up to two passengers, while the one in Car 10 is designed for a single passenger. Access is controlled by locking and unlocking the door using a linked IC card.

‘Nozomi’ fares between Tokyo and Osaka are from 42,100 yen

The electric reclining seats with leg rests offer a level of adjustability that surpasses even standard Green Car seating. In addition to dedicated Wi-Fi, each seat is equipped with three types of power outlets: a standard AC outlet, USB Type-A, and USB Type-C. Passengers can also individually control lighting, climate, and audio announcements via a dedicated tablet. Furthermore, there is space to stow a suitcase that meets airline carry-on size limits (within 55cm x 40cm x 25cm).

A complimentary welcome service is provided, and passengers can also use the tablet to order items featuring local products along the line. from the onboard sales service (for an additional fee).

The one-way adult fare for the Supreme Class Cabin on the "Nozomi" service starts at 60,500 yen for Car 7 and 42,100 yen for Car 10 on the Tokyo–Shin Osaka route.

"Supreme Class" service will be available on "Nozomi," "Hikari," and "Kodama" trains. JR Tokai plans to operate approximately 12 services per day (combined total for both directions) by October 2026 and will progressively introduce the service on N700S series trains (16-car formations) following the launch date.
