International arrivals in Japan exceeded 30 million in total with 3.2 million in September 2025

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international arrivals in Japan in September 2025 was up 13.7% year on year to 3,266,800, exceeding 3 million for the first time for September. For the first nine months, the total reached 31.7 million arrivals, marking the fastest achievement of more than 30 million ever. 

JNTO said that the whole inbound travel market continued growing, although flights from East Asia were cancelled a lot due to typhoons.

The largest origin market was China with 775,500 visitors (up 18.9% year on year), followed by South Korea with 670,500 (up 2.1%), Taiwan with 527,000 visitors (up 12.0%), U.S. with 224,700 visitors (up 17.1%) and Hong Kong with 149,500 visitors (down 12.2%).

Visitors from Middle East were up 109.2% to record-high 29,700, more than India with 25,400 and Spain with 24,700. Visitors from 18 source markets were record-high for September.
