Japanese travelers in Japan were up 3% to 170 million in Q2 of 2017, but spending per capita declined

The tourism spending trend survey for the second quarter of 2017 (April to June 2017), reported by Japan Tourism Agency, finds that travel spending in Japan by Japanese travelers totaled 5,402 billion JPY (+1.6%), which consisted of 3,986 billion JPY for overnight travels (+1.7%) and 1,415 billion JPY for day trips (+1.3%). 

The number of Japanese travelers in Japan was up 3% to 170 million, comprising 79.5 million overnight travelers (+0.9%) and 90.7 million day trippers (+5.0%).

Travel spending per travel per capita was down 1.4% to 31,733 JPY. Spending on an overnight trip was 50,120 JPY (+0.8%), and spending on a day trip 15,607 JPY (-3.5%).
