New translation service for three foreign languages is provided on tablet videophone

Japan’s leading printing solution provider Toppan will begin offering a real time translation service using a videophone function on tablet. The tablet TB phone function for iOS provides a user with verbal translation of Japanese to English, Chinese and Korean or even with a finger language in Japanese. As soon as a language is selected, a native translator comes up after the videophone display is activated.

To offer the innovative service, Toppan has signed an agent contract with translation service provider Progresst, which developed the real time translation service. Trying to sell the service to retailers, tourism service providers, distributions or public organizations as a multi-language solution over the counter, Toppan aims at sales of about 100 million JPY in 2016 including the inbound travel-related businesses.

Kansai International Airport has already begun using the service in the international passenger terminal and duty-free shops ahead of beginning of the full-scale commercial use.
