Tokyo estimates tourism economic impact at 12.9 trillion JPY and job creations at 600,000 in 2015

Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported that spending on tourism in 2015 was up 7.4% year on year to 5,962 billion JPY with 5,286 million travelers (+2.6%). As a result, Tokyo had economic ripple effect of 12,892 billion JPY (+7.3%), income effect of 4,757 billion JPY (+7.2%), job creations of 602,268 (+7.0%) and tax effect of 453.6 billion JPY (+13.1%).

The total of visitors consisted of 516.7 million residents in Japan (+2.1%) and 11.9 million residents in foreign countries (+34%). The total of spending on tourism comprised 1,823 billion JPY by residents in Tokyo (+1.8%), 323.5 million JPY by residents in other prefectures (+1.7%) and 1,115 billion JPY by residents in foreign countries (+42%).

The total of economic ripple effect consisted of 3,943.5 billion JPY by residents in Tokyo (+1.6%), 6,537.6 billion JPY by residents in other prefectures (+1.7%) and 2,410.6 billion JPY by residents in foreign countries (+41.7%). The growth rate of tax effect by residents in Japan was just 7.1%, while tax effect by residents in foreign countries was up about 50% to 85 billion JPY.
