Where in Japan did international visitors stay in the 2018-2019 New Year holidays? - Booking.com survey

The Booking.com Japan survey, targeting visitors from South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, U.S.A., U.K. and France, finds that visitors form all of the above eight countries and regions except South Korea stayed in Tokyo in the 2018-2019 New Year holiday period. The top for South Korea was Osaka.

More visitors from short-haul destinations, such as South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan, traveled in Kyushu and Okinawa, and for South Korea, six cities in Kyushu and Okinawa were ranked in the top 10. For Taiwan, six cities in Okinawa were ranked in the top 20.

For Thailand and Singapore, Hakodate and Niseko in Hokkaido, Takayama in Gifu and Fuji-Kawaguchi ko in Yamanashi were popular. Booking.com has analyzed that travelers from Southeast Asia chose heavy snow regions to enjoy their inexperienced lifestyles in Japan.

In the Europe and U.S.A. markets, Kyoto was ranked 2ndfor visitors from U.S.A., U.K. and France, and Hakone, Nara and Hiroshima were also popular. Out of the top 10 cities, winter sports destinations, such as Niseko or Hakuba were preferred by visitors from U.S.A. and U.K., and visitors from France characteristically liked to stay in Naoshima in Kagawa, well-known as an art island, and UNESCO World Heritages, such as Nikko or Miyazima.
