Michelin, known for the Michelin Guide, a global rating system for hotels and restaurants, has announced the ‘Michelin Key Hotel Selection 2026.’
This year, 470 hotels from 79 countries and regions were added in the selection, bringing the total to 2,832 properties. The breakdown consists of 155 3 Key hotels, 657 2 Key hotels, and 2,020 1 Key hotels. In Japan, 19 new properties were added, bringing the total number of Michelin Key-awarded hotels in the country to 145.
Seven 3 Key Hotels are selected in Japan
Seven Japanese hotels, Bulgari Hotel Tokyo, Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi, Palace Hotel Tokyo, Gora Kadan, Asaba, Amanemu, and Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto, were recognized with 3 Michelin Keys, an award signifying an exceptional stay. All seven retained the rating they held in 2025.
23 hotels received the 2 Michelin Key distinction, which recognizes an outstanding stay. New additions to this category include Gora Kadan Fuji and Capella Kyoto, while Yoan Nishitomiya was upgraded from a 1 Michelin Key rating.
The 1 Michelin Key category, recognizing a special stay, added 17 new properties to reach a total of 115. Newly listed establishments span the country and include Hotel Hakurin Hakodate (Hakodate, Hokkaido), Azuma Farm Koiwai (Shizukuishi, Iwate), Park Hyatt Tokyo (Tokyo), Shisui, Luxury Collection Hotel, Nara (Nara City, Nara), Hoshinoya Taketomijima (Taketomi Island, Okinawa), and Jivana Miyakojima (Miyakojima City, Okinawa).
