Airbnb.org will begin providing free accommodations as emergency shelters in Kumamoto Prefecture to support victims and rescuers of the Kumamoto earthquake that occurred on July 28 2026. Details, including application, will be announced later.
The support scheme is available in the selected areas in 47 prefectures nationwide until local governments complete their evacuation systems when a large scale of natural disaster happens in Japan.
Under the scheme, Airbnb.org, Airbnb and non-profit organizations prepare accommodations from the Airbnb listings within 24 hours after official supports are confirmed. In this case, airbnb.org will issue ‘Airbnb, org Housing Credit’ to targeted victims and rescuers.
For the support actions in Kumamoto Prefecture, airbnb.org forms partnerships with several domestic NPOs, such as Peace Boat Disaster Relief, Peace Winds Japan and Japan Platform.
