Comparison of Japanese travelers to Korea, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong in April 2015

Among four major outbound travel markets for Japan, Japanese travelers reduced by 14% to 154,400 for Korea, 4.8% to 111,000 for Taiwan and 5.8% to 71,900 for Hong Kong but increased by 1.4% to 196,800 for China in April 2015 compared to the same month a year earlier, according to data from the statistics authority of each countries and regions.

The following table shows movements of Japanese travelers to Korea, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong in the last 12 months.

Japanese travelers to Korea resulted in year-on-year reductions for 32 months in a row since September 2012. Korea was the largest market among the four countries and regions in March 2015, but China with year-on-year growth took over the top in April 2015. Japanese travelers to Taiwan turn down from monthly growth in March 2015 to monthly reduction in April 2015, and those to Hong Kong resulted in monthly reductions for six months in a row since November 2014.

On a visitor basis, Korea and China welcomed 200,000 or more Japanese visitors in March 2015, but had hard times with fewer Japanese visitors than 200,000 in April 2015.
