Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international arrivals in Japan in August 2025 was up 16.9% year on year to 3,428,000, exceeding 3 million for the first time for August. After the single-digit growths for the past two months, the growth rate returned to double-digit again.

JNTO said that visitors from East Asia, U.S., Europe, Australia and Middle East increased due to the school holiday season. Visitors from Taiwan and Spain were record-high on a single month basis, and those from 18 source markets reached record-high for August.

The largest origin market was China with 1,018,600 visitors (up 36.5% year on year), followed by South Korea with 660,900 (up 8%), Taiwan with 620,700 visitors (up 10%), Hong Kong with 226,100 visitors (down 8.3%) and U.S. with 194,500 visitors (up 11.7%).

On the contrary, visitors from Singapore were down 17.3% to 20,500. JNTO analyzed that Singapore people seemed to hesitate to travel abroad because August 2025 was the 60th anniversary of the founding of the nation.
