
Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international arrivals in Japan in April 2025 was up 28.5% year on year to record-high 3,908,900 on a single month basis, exceeding the previous record of 3,781,629 in January 2025. Compared to April 2023, the number doubled.
JNTO said that visitors from many source markets increased in the cherry blossom season, and Easter vacation became a trigger to increase foreign visitors.
The largest origin market was China with 765,100 (up 43.4% year on year), followed by South Korea with 721,600 visitors (up 9.1%), Taiwan with 537,600 visitors (up 16.9%), U.S. with 327,500 visitors (up 43.1%) and Hong Kong with 263,600 visitors (up 42.9%).
Visitors from 10 source markets, such as U.S. to Canada, were record-breaking on a single month basis, and those from 11 source markets, such as South Korea or China, reached record-high for for April.
