International arrivals in Japan were down 6.8% in June 2026, while record-high were seen 15 source markets

Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the number of international arrivals in Japan in June 2026 was down 6.8% year on year to 3,148,600, which showed the year-on-year reduction for three months in a low. The total for the fist half of 2026 was also down 2.0% to 21,084,800.

The biggest source market was South Korea with 787,100 arrivals (up 7.8%), followed by Taiwan with 670,400 (up 14.6%), US with 354,500 (up 2.7%), China with 340,700 (down 57.3%) and Hong Kong with 214,300 (up 28.5%).

According to JNTO, arrivals from 15 source markets, such as South Korea, Taiwan, US and India, were record-high for June, while arrivals from 5 source markets, such as China, Germany and Thailand, reduced compared to a year ago.
