Japan is ranked 9th in the world for the safest county to travel, with No.1 in safety from crime and transportation safety

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP), a major travel insurance company of U.S., announced the safest country to travel 2026, based on the survey to U.S. travelers for destinations that they travelers in the past five years. 

No.1 safest country is Netherlands, followed by Australia as the second and Austria as the third. Japan is ranked 9th and selected as one of Hall of Fame countries that have averaged a top-10 position since 2018.

BHTP describes Japan that the country is the exception to the rule that only sparsely populated countries are safe. 

Japan is the top in Safety from Violent Crime and Transportation Safety, 4th in Safety From Terrorism, 6th in Health Measures, 9th in Women’s/LGBTQIA+/People of Color Safety, 2nd in Millennial Survey Respondents and 10th in Gen Z Survey Respondents.

8 Switzerland

9 Japan

10 Ireland

Hall of Fame countries are Switzerland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Iceland, Norway, Ireland and Japan.
