Japanese smart phone holder ratio expands to over 60%, according to MMD Labo. survey

The survey in April 2015 on mobile phone holders in Japan, reported by Mobile Marketing Data Labo., finds that the ratio of smart phone holders expanded to 62.5% from 59.0% in the previous survey in October 2014. Out of the total, iPhone holders accounted for 50.1%, and the breakdown was 31.6% of iPhone5S, 25.4% of iPhone6 and 7.7% of iPhone6Plus.

The survey also shows that purchases before December 2011 were the most common with a ratio of 23.6%, and the ratios were 8.0% in the first quarter of 2014, 9.3% in the fourth quarter of 2014 and 8.1% in the first quarter of 2015, increasing from 2 to 3% through 2012.

The ratio of smart phone holders particularly expanded from 50.9% in November 2013 to 59% in October 2014, and the ratio was finally beyond 60% in April this year.

The survey was conducted online to 15 years old or older males and females who were mobile phone holders on March 30 and 31 this year. Valid answers were 6,219.
