The ratio of online sales in the Japan’s travel market was 33% in 2014 - PhoCusWright survey

The latest report of PhoCusWright Japan (PCWJ) finds that the scale of the online travel market in Japan expanded by 23% to 2.9 billion yen in 2014 compared to 2013. The ratio was also up three points to 33% of the total. Expansion of online sales by real travel companies, increase in dynamic package products and greater presence of foreign OTA are behind the background, according to PCWJ.

The survey was conducted in the period from March to May 2015 by hearing online selling conditions from more than 40 travel companies or organizations, such as airlines, accommodations, railways, buses, cruises and travel agencies including OTAs.

PCWJ pointed out that a share of major Japanese OTAs has shrunk in the online travel market due to the above three factors.
