Japan Tourism Agency announced that the total amount of travel consumption in Japan, combing consumption in domestic travel and international travel (consumption in Japan) by Japanese travelers and consumption in Japan by international visitors, reached 37.6 trillion yen in 2025, 9.6% more than 34.4 trillion yen in 2024.
The total was divided into 21.7 trillion yen in Japanese overnight trips (a share of 57.7%), 5.1 trillion yen in Japanese day trips (a share of 13.5%), 1.4 trillion yen in international travel by Japanese travelers (a share of 3.7%) and 9.5 trillion yen in international travelers to Japan (a share of 25.1%).

The total number of Japanese travelers in Japan increased by 2.4% to 553 million, which were divided into 300 million overnight travelers (up 2.3%) and 253 day travelers (up 2.6%).
The average spending a trip was up 3.9% to 48,424 yen a traveler. It was 72,412 yen for overnight travel (up 4.4%) and 20,000 yen for day travel (up 2.4%).
