Rakuten Group, Uber Japan, and Uber Eats Japan formed a strategic partnership with the linkage of Rakuten IDs. Through the linkage with Rakuten IDs, Rakuten introduced "Rakuten Points (Online)," a common points service that allows users to accumulate points on sites other than Rakuten. Users can accumulate Rakuten Points by using Uber Japan's ride-hailing service and Uber Eats Japan's delivery service.
By linking their Rakuten ID with either the Uber or Uber Eats app, users will be able to earn 1 Rakuten Point for every 200 yen (excluding tax) spent on both apps. Additionally, when users pay iwith the cashless payment service "Rakuten Pay," they will receive up to 1.5% of their payment in Rakuten Points. When used in conjunction with Rakuten Points (Online), users can earn up to 2% of their payment in Rakuten Points.
Through the linkage with Rakuten ID, Uber can use member data collected through Rakuten Points to optimize recommendations and campaign distribution based on user trends.
A variety of possibilities will happen
“This the first partnership with Uber. We are looking for a variety of possibilities in the Rakuten Ecosystem by using Rakuten AI,” Hiroshi Mikitani, Rakuten Group Chairman and CEO, said at a press conference. “It is possible to suggest the best tourist spots based on the tourist's hobbies, preferences and transportation information. In addition, we would like to consider introducing favorite restaurants and offering delivery from those restaurants by collaborating with Rakuten Gurunavi,”
Referring the public ride-sharing service in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber CEO, said that the partnership with Rakuten will be a chance for us to extend the effort nationwide Japan, and also added that it will help people reduce burdens in daily lives by providing more convenient and seamless values.
