“White Paper on Tourism in Japan, 2014” Released: Emphasis on Inbound Travel Which Achieved 10 Million Visitors and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games- Japan Tourism Agency

On Jun. 10, 2014, the Cabinet approved the “State of Tourism in FY 2013” and the “Tourism Policy in FY 2014” (“White Paper on Tourism in Japan, 2014”) and released it on Japan Tourism Agency website.

This year, the White Paper puts emphasis on the tourism tends of 2013, notably on the factors for successful inbound travel which achieved 10 million visitors, and also on the measures which may be helpful for upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympics Games. Under the Olympic related section, case examples and effects from the past Olympic Games including London and Vancouver are analyzed, and the measures to be worked on toward the Tokyo Olympic Games are listed. Those measures include multi-year promotion campaign, early and continuing transmission of information and actively attracting international conferences.

In Addition, the White Paper described measures to be taken in this fiscal year in order to achieve 20 million inbound visitors in 2020:  Revision of the existent “action program” in the Ministerial Meeting for Promoting a Tourism-Oriented Country, strategic expansion of inbound travel promotion and production of attractive world-class tourism destinations to name a few.

“White Paper on Tourism” summarizes the state of tourism as well as the tourism-related measures taken by the government and it is reported to the Diet each year.
