Airlines of Japan suffer from unprecedented slumps in passengers during this year’s Golden Week period under the state of emergency declaration

All of Japanese airlines suffer from unprecedented decreases in passenger demands during this year’s Golden Week holiday period under the sate of emergency declaration effective by May 6. 

ANA has received only 132,011 bookings on its domestic flights (-89.1% year on year), providing 1,346,919 available seats (-8.2%). The booking rate is down 72.1 points to 9.8% compared to a year ago.

The booking rate of international flights is 29.8% with 9,269 bookings (-96.1%) on 31,078 available seats (-89.4%). There is no booking on the Honolulu route, and the most bookings are found on Asia and Oceania with 4,799 only.

JAL Group has considerably reduced domestic flight bookings by 87.3% year on year to 120,342, as it has shrunken available seats by 66.8% to 361,558. The booking rate is 33.3%, 53.7 lower points than a year ago. International flight bookings are 5,132 (-97.6%) on 14,655 available seats (-94.1%).

Skymark has received 19,842 domestic flight bookings (176,139 bookings a year ago) on 181,602 available seats (214,524 a year ago), and the booking rate is 10.7%. The airline will suspend its international services between Narita and Saipan by May 31. 

AIR DO has reduced domestic flight bookings by 90.9% to 5,953 on 58,845 available seats (-17.1%), and the booking rate is 10.1%. 

Star Flayer has also decreased domestic flight bookings by 90.1% to 3,835, providing 47,560 available seats (+3.1%). The booking rate is 8.1%. The airline will suspend its international services between Kitakyushu and Nagoya and Taipei by May 31. 

Solaseed Air has already cut 52 domestic flights a day on 11 routes on April 29 and 30 and will announce additional suspensions after May 1. The bookings are 7,823 (-86%) so far. 

Peach Aviation has received 8,342 domestic flight bookings (-89.3%) on 50,400 available seats (-44.9%), and the booking rate is 16.6%. All of its international services will stop by May 31.

Jetstar Japan has reduced domestic flight bookings by 92.5% to 8,876 on 16,920 available seats (-89.4%). The booking rate is 52.5%. Its Narita-Shanghai, -Hong Kong -Taipei and -Manila, Kansai-Manila and Nagoya-Manila will be suspended by May 31. 

SPRING JAPAN has reduced domestic flight bookings by 99.4% to 102 on 1,134 available seats (-93.6%), and the booking rate is 9.0%. The LCC will suspend all of its international services based on Narita by May 31 except one flight a week on Narita-Harbin on May 3.
