ANA outnumbered JAL in terms of international flight passengers in the summer vacation period 2016

JAL and ANA announced passenger results in the summer vacation period from August 10 to 21 2016). In terms of international flight passengers and the year-on-year growth, ANA outnumbered JAL. In the domestic market, both of the airlines carried more passengers although they reduced available seats during the period.

JAL increased international flight passengers by 2% year on year to 331,078, providing 359,149 seats (+0.1%). The load factor was 92.2%, higher than 90.5% a year earlier. The followings are passenger and load factor results by route:

Transpacific  47,985 (+12%) / 93.1%

Europe  30,589 (+1.3%) / 91.6% Southeast

Asia  74,289 (-0.8%) / 89.1%

Oceania  5,929 (-1.3%) / 91.9%

China  75,430 (+10.9%) / 92.9%

Korea  24,218 (-11.4%) / 93.9%

Taiwan  33,632 (-0.1%) / 91.9%

Honolulu  33,454 (-8.3%) / 95.1%

Guam  5,552 (+5.6%) / 97.6%

Although JAL Group reduced available seats by 1.3% to 1,644,915 in total on domestic routes, it increased passengers by 5.2% to 1,406,496. The load factor was 85.5%, t.3 higher points than a year earlier. JAL and J-Air flights increased passengers on all of the destinations, particularly increasing those by 17.7% on Chugoku/Shikoku routes. The load factors were higher than 90% on Kansai and Okinawa routes.

ANA increased international flight passengers by 8.9% to 348,430, as extension of the international network allows ANA to increase available seats by 9.2% to 397,794. The load factor was 87.6%, 0.2 lower points than a year earlier. The followings are passenger and load factor results by route:

North America 61,325 (-1.5%) / 90.4%

China  103,638 (+14.8%) / 86.9%

Asia/Oceania  136,130 (+12.8%) / 85.5%

Honolulu  16,938 (+8.2%) / 97.8%

In the same manner as JAL, ANA reduced available seats on domestic flights by 0.5% to 2,393,428, however increased passengers by 5.4% to 1,944,600. The load factor was 81.2%, 4.5 higher points than a year earlier. ANA carried more passengers on all destinations except Tohoku/Hokuriku, and the load factors were higher 80% on Hokkaido, Kansai and Okinawa routes.
