Comparison of the top 5 Japanese travel agents’ results in November 2017

Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) announced that the sales of the 50 major Japanese travel agents amounted to 510.7 billion JPY in November 2017 (++5.8%), which consisted of 174.7 billion JPY for the outbound travel business (+9.1%), 20.6 billion JPY for the inbound travel business (+21.1%) and 315.4 billion JPY for the domestic travel business (+3.2%).

The graphs below show the outbound travel business results of the top five travel agents (25 JTB group companies, five H.I.S. group companies, three Hankyu Travel group companies, eight KNT-CT group companies, NTA). Among them, KNT-CT marked growth of 25.1%, H.I.S. and Hankyu increased dales by of 10% or higher on a year-on-year basis.

The graphs below show the inbound travel business results of the top five travel agents (25 JTB group companies, five H.I.S. group companies, NTA, eight KNT-CT group companies, Rakuten) for the past year. The large growths were especially found in H.I.S. (+84.2%) and Rakuten (+48.4%).

The graphs below show the domestic travel business results of the top five travel agents (25 JTB group companies, Rakuten, eight KNT-CT group companies, NTA, ANA Sales) for the past year. JTB, Rakuten, NTA and ANA Sales succeeded in increasing sales.

The sales of package tour brand products totaled 124.3 billion JPY (+4.3%) with 3,333,697 customers (-0.3%) in November 2017. The breakdown was 32 billion JPY  (+9.6%) with 170,232 customers (+0.7%) for the outbound travel business, 550 million JPY (+0.8%) with 40,294 customers (+23.1%) for the inbound travel business and 91.8 billion JPY (+2.6%) with 3,121,171 customers (-0.5%) for the domestic travel business. 

According to the travel companies, the outbound travel market particularly benefited from high demands for Singapore, Taiwan and Europe. The inbound travel market was particularly vitalized by increases in visitors from Korea, Taiwan, China and Australia and also boosted by newly hosted MICEs. The domestic travel market reduced group travels but increased FIT for Okinawa particularly.
